Winter 2017/2018

Winter 2017/2018

Singing in the winter months gives a brilliant lift to spirits and our termly Monday night practice sessions are a great way to minimise hibernation.  And so our new song for early winter, an arrangement of the stirring song 'So Strong' by Labi Siffre; very fitting for a time of year when it can be hard to keep up energy levels

Pete's arrangement of 'Let's Twist Again' was also perfect for getting the circulation going - it's impossible to sing without some sort of hip movement!

It's also been fun this winter to learn new arrangements of carols that many of us have known for a lifetime.  This year Pete offered up a new take on the firm favourite 'Silent Night', which was perfect for our first festive performance at a Montacute House's Lantern of Light evening.

A particularly wet and cold winters evening, we felt very privileged to sing in the Great Hall at Montecute.  With undertones of Christmases past, the magnificant surroundings and a receptive audience made for a very enjoyable experience - and we didn't mind a jot about fetching blue protective shoes and squinting in the ambient light at our carol sheets!

And so following our last festive sing this Monday at Portcullis House in Langport, Pete set up his desk at our Huish Episcopi base for the last time in 2017 - it holds everything we need and forget to bring along each week.  We do our best to keep to the 'learn by ear' tradition, however, holding a word sheet is a great comfort for most at one time or another.

We have had a fabulous year of song in 2017, all made possible by Pete's musical talents and guidance.  The Langport Community Choir Committee would like to wish members past and present and all who love to sing, a very Happy Christmas and New Year.  We look forward to another engaging year of song in 2018 and welcome new members at the start of our next term on Monday 8th January 2018.
